United Healthcare Covered Drug and Alcohol Rehab

United Healthcare is one part of the parent company known as United Health Group. As the largest health carrier in the United States, there are more than 70 million people, from one side of the country to the next, that rely on the company for medical coverage as well as rehab services.

United Health Group was founded in 1977, and currently employs more than 130,000 people.

For a better idea of how big United Health Group has become, consider this: the company is ranked in the top 20 of Fortune magazines top 500 companies in the United States.

United Healthcare members should become familiar with the drug and alcohol rehab services offered by the company. If you plan on using your policy for rehab purposes, it is a must to understand the type of coverage that is available. Even more so, you should pay close attention to which rehab facilities are “in network.” This allows you to receive a high level of coverage, while keeping costs to a minimum.

Note: you have the right to receive care at an “out of network” facility, but your out of pocket cost will be higher.

Where can I find Information?

The professionals at United Healthcare are experienced in helping you receive the treatment you need, including drug and alcohol rehab.

To learn more about what is covered by your plan, contact a customer service representative online or via the phone number listed on the back of your insurance card.

Like most health insurance plans, substance abuse benefits provided by United Healthcare are not identical to medical benefits. You should discuss the differences, as well as the requirements for treatment, with an insurance representative.

What is Covered by United Healthcare?

With so many types of policies provided by United Healthcare, it is impossible to pin down what is and is not covered by a particular plan. As noted above, you will want to contact an insurance representative to learn more about what your particular policy covers.

Here are some of the many treatments covered by some United Healthcare plans:

  • Inpatient hospital detoxification
  • Outpatient detoxification
  • Inpatient rehabilitation
  • Outpatient alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation

There are also rehabilitation services not covered by United Healthcare, often times including:

  • Ancillary rehabilitation services
